Promise Blog

Welcome to the Promise Campaign Blog. This is where the story of the Campaign unfolds each day between August 2011 and May 2012. Check back to get the inside scoop on our progress from the JDRF Advocacy staff, catch profiles on JDRF Advocates from across the country and read periodic updates from our co-chairs.

Our Promise Campaign goal for the month of March has been to reach 400 meetings, and my plan for today's blog post was to write about how close we are to reaching that goal. I didn't even get a chance to start writing that post because as of this morning, Promise meeting #400 has already been scheduled!

The Promise to Remember Campaign meeting with Representative Kevin McCarthy (CA-22) had a very special guest: NASCAR Development Driver Ryan Reed! Since being diagnosed with T1D in February 2011, Ryan has made it his mission to help build awareness, become a role model, and positively touch the lives of so many that have already been affe

In the last meeting digest, I challenged our Promise Campaign coordinators to get our meeting total up to 400 by the end of March. I am excited to say that we are just 10 meetings away from reaching that goal! 390 Promise meetings have been scheduled or completed thus far, leaving us 42 to go to reach our overall goal. While we wait to see if we can reach 400 by the end of this month, check out some of the recently completed meetings below.

Many of you have already contacted your Members of Congress in support of the Special Diabetes Program, and I want to thank you for your help. Now is the time to add a little more power behind your action by asking your Members for their support in person!

The Promise Campaign has crept even closer to its goal! As of this afternoon, we have 381 meetings scheduled or held. This means that we have 51 meetings to go to reach our overall goal of 432! If we can reach a total of 400 meetings by the end of March, we will be well on our way to not only meeting but even surpassing our goal. Members of the House of Representative are in recess right now, so Promise coordinators are hard at work helping to get us there. While they work hard to reach 400 by the end of March, check out our latest list of recently completed meetings below. Maybe they will inspire you to coordinate your own!

Dearest Advocates, WOW!  What an awesome Government Day last week!  Several new and many experienced faces shared this incredible, annual event. I was honored to be among you meeting, learning and making our voices heard on Capitol Hill. Every year I come away from Government Day re-energized, humbled and eternally grateful for the work of JDRF Advocacy.  YOU, GR Advocates, are the very benchmark of what makes JDRF so effective.  The Members know JDRF and are respectful of the passion and dedication of their volunteers.  In the districts and on “The Hill” you do whatever it takes to deliver our message to your legislators.

It has been a busy week here at JDRF Advocacy! On Monday and Tuesday, advocates were fervently fighting for research funding by meeting with Members of Congress on Capitol Hill as a part of JDRF's Government Day event. The attendees met with a total of 504 Member offices! Advocates who were unable to attend Government Day have been bringing the event back to their hometowns by attending Promise Campaign meetings. These meetings are equally as important as those held on Capitol Hill earlier this week, if not more!
