Jim Webb (Sen-VA-S)

  • JDRF advocates meet with Senator Jim Webb (VA) in his Washington, D.C. office
Eight families attended the photo opportunity and brief exchange with Senator Jim Webb and long meeting with Doug Ierley, his senior counsel. Three children were front and center -- Ana from Vienna, VA; Zachary from Falls Church; and Virginia from Fairfax -- and other family members spoke on behalf of their young children who were in camp that day. The advocates did thank the Senator for signing on to the letter to FDA Commissioner Hamburg about the artificial pancreas. Doug spent half an hour listening to the personal stories of the advocates and getting an update on the artificial pancreas. He offered to get the office involved if help is needed on the FDA front. When the advocates last met with Doug, his out-of-town niece had just been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She was visiting him that weekend and this connection to type 1 makes the issue a very personal one for Doug now. A list of all family members attending was provided to Doug. Thank you to Senator Webb and Doug for their continued support!
