The group discussion at the Promise meeting with Representative Lummis
JDRF advocates Vickie Spires, Kyle Spires, Lydia Styver, Clarence Styver and Buck McVeigh met with Representative Cynthia Lummis to thank her for her support for the Special Diabetes Program. Kyle Spires and Lydia Styver explained what it is like to live with type 1 diabetes and how the pump and continuous glucose monitor have improved their blood sugars. They also thanked Representative Lummis for joining her fellow Members of Congress in encouraging the FDA to move forward issuing guidelines for the artificial pancreas.
Kyle and Lydia were able to show Representative Lummis the progression on the technology where Kyle had the pump while Lydia had the pump and the constant glucose monitor. The two were able to demonstrate how the artificial pancreas would work and also how the artificial pancreas would make life easier for them.
Representative Lummis was very excited to see the technology in action and she promised Kyle and Lydia that she would continue to support the Special Diabetes Program and to push the FDA to speed the process to get medical technology in the hands of people who need it.
