On Wednesday, February 22, 2012 a group of 12 JDRF advocates met with Representative Adam Smith and his staff at his District office in Tacoma, Washington as part of the Promise to Remember Me Campaign. Attending the meeting were Faith Trimble and her daughter Hope Miller, Aimee Gimness and her daughters Vivian Gimness and Abby Gimness, Charis Tucker with daughters Genevieve Tucker and Lillian Tucker, Margie Silver, Georgia Spiropoulos, Brendy McLaughlin and her son Elijah Arko.
The advocates had a very productive meeting. Representative Smith and his staff were very gracious to this large group and engaged in an informative conversation. Representative Smith has supported the Special Diabetes Program funding previously and stated that he will continue to support efforts for funding for research in finding a cure for diabetes. Representative Smith was very interested in hearing from the children and their parents on what it is like living with the daily challenges of T1 diabetes. Representative Smith also showed great interest in being informed in what new advancements there is towards a cure for T1. The advocates thank Representative Smith and his entire staff for their continued support of JDRF’s mission.
